What creates a perfect piece of art? Art lovers and historians have pondered and argued this question for centuries. One thing that can be stated about a good or great painting, is how well the artist expresses the feelings and intention on his canvas. A perfect example in our gallery would be the painting “Discovery“. The toddler has the surprised look on her face which comes with the experience of seeing and discovering something for the very first time, in this case coming face to face with a beautiful Bird of Paradise flower. In her excitement she clasps her hands together as if wondering “should I touch it” or maybe “better not”. She is just standing there perfectly still as if to take it all into her mind. We watched this little girl at the Mission of San Capistrano in Southern California and she had an audience of several adults besides her parents all spellbound watching her and seeing her delight and all the wonderment of the discoveries of childhood that we as adults have lost because we “know the world” I cannot help but wonder how much we loose in our grown up world and if we should not consciously strive to be much more open to the simple beauty of “Gods Nature”. Thank you, Karin Watt |
